Rookie players get involved with cooking classes

As the Durham players returned to a cold Seat Unique Riverside this month, our rookie player began 2024 with some personal development sessions in the kitchen.

Three of our rookie players, Dan Hogg, Luke Robinson and Stanley McAlindon spent this week working on their culinary skills with a daily cookery class alongside our Deputy Head Chef Ed Coultas.

With many players of the rookie and academy players returning to apartments and flats of their own, it’s vital in lifestyle, sport science, fitness and nutrition for the players to be able have an understanding of how to prepare their own meals.

To help in their understanding of how to cook healthy meals, Dan, Luke and Stanley attended daily sessions with Deputy Head Chef Ed Coultas, learning how to cook a wide range of meals.

Deputy Head Chef Ed Coultas, said: “It has been a great few days having the chance to pass on some cooking skills to our rookie players.

“These classes teach the boys to get fresh ingredients. They learn that cooking is a discipline and it’s habit-forming for them as well; they all seemed to enjoy the classes and enjoyed eating the food they produced each day.”

The players cooked poached eggs, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, chicken stir fry, pasta and Szechuan pork.
