Rushworth reaches 400 milestone

Chris Rushworth has become the fourth man to reach 400 first-class wickets for Durham during the Specsavers County Championship match against Sussex.

The fast bowler reached the milestone when removing Harry Finch’s off stump for his third wicket of the innings.

Rushworth raced past the 400 first-class career wickets mark during last week’s match against Warwickshire in just 109 matches. The other five came in two appearances for the MCC during the pre-season Champion County matches.

But the 32-year-old only had to wait one more week to reach 400 for his home county, joining elite company in the shape of Graham Onions, Simon Brown & Steve Harmison.

Rushworth struck in his first over, having Tom Haines caught behind without scoring, & then having Phil Salt excellently caught by Graham Clark low at mid-wicket.

The 400th wicket for Durham was his 219th at Emirates Riverside since making his first-class debut against Yorkshire at Leeds in 2010.

His best first-class return remains 9/52, an unforgettable performance against Northants in 2014 when he took 15 in a day.
