Durham Cricket Head Coach Ryan Campbell expressed happiness at Durham being able to claim maximum batting points and their ability to bounce back from setbacks following a rain-affected draw at Derbyshire this week.
“Our batting came under extreme pressure at 8 for 2, two blokes (Alex Lees and David Bedingham) really stood up and I think it’s the sixth time we’ve got maximum batting points which is a real feather in the cap of this batting side,” Campbell said.
“Unfortunately rain has come everywhere in England but I guess we look at our game plan and we are probably a little bit disappointed how we bowled on that first day but I thought we hung in there really well, so we walk away pretty confident of how we’re playing and we head to Scarborough really looking forward to taking on our nearest rival Yorkshire.”
Campbell also expressed a desire that despite a highly impressive season for the D’s in his first season in charge, they’re always looking for ways to improve and better themselves.
“This team from where we were to where we want to get, I think it’s been an exciting journey so far and we’ve still got areas we want to improve on and get better at.
“Our fielding has been a little bit down from what we expect in the last couple of games so we need to be a better cricket team if we want to get promoted and then be really good in the First Division so it’s not just about this year but the next couple of years and how we go about our cricket.
“This team is hungry to win and I think it’s well documented that I hate draws and we’re not going to go into our shells, we want to keep pushing for results and we’re going to look at ways of winning so these last four games should be lots of fun.”
