Day 4: Surrey 2nd XI327 & 292, Durham 319/6 dec & 240/5
Ben McKinney scored a fine century for Durham Seconds in their ECB 2XI Championship fixture at Guilford against Surrey, but bad light meant play was suspended with Durham needing a further 61 to win with 9.5 overs left in the day and the game finishing as a draw.
Surrey resuming on 230/5, Elliot Hooper struck 4th ball of the morning when Nick Kimber was caught behind for 6, with Colby Dyer falling shortly after when Mitchell Killeen dismissed the South African for 12.
The hosts lost their final 4 wickets for 33 runs and were bowled out for 292 setting Durham 300 to win from 75 overs.
Each of the Durham bowlers struck in the second innings, with Bushnell, Taylor-Clarke and Hooper all claiming two wickets each.
Durham began their response in a good manor, with Crawshaw and McKinney sharing an opening stand of 64, before Crawshaw was out caught for 21.
Graham Clark was the new man to the middle and alongside Ben McKinney they added 108 for the second wicket, with McKinney bringing up his half century in the process, form 74 balls in 92 minutes.
With 17 fours in 158 balls McKinney brought up his century off a single from O’Sullivan as Durham required a further 130 to win.
Having brought up his 100, the centurion, miss timed a sweep shot which went straight to Cameron Steel in the slips as he fell for a well made 100 – bringing Jonathan Bushnell to the middle needing 120 to win from 23 overs.
Graham Clark was the next to reach his milestone with a four off Moriarty, scoring his 50 in 79 balls, but having hit him for 4, Clark gave himself lots of room and was bowled for 62. Brydon Carse was the new man and he was pinned lbw as Moriarty struck twice in the space of 3 balls.
Jamie Crawley hit one six and two fours but skipped up the wicket to Moriarty and was stumped for 22 with Durham still needing 61 off 9.5 overs. Just as Crawley departed the umpires took the players off the field for bad light and a no further play was possible.
Day 3 -Surrey 2nd XI 327 & 230/5 (72) & Durham 2nd XI 319/6 dec – Surrey lead by 238 runs.
Surrey Seconds lead Durham Seconds by 238 runs with 5 wickets remaining going into the final day at Guilford Cricket Club.
Having only lost two wickets on Day 2 at Guilford, Jonathan Bushnell fell second over of the morning session when he was caught in the slips driving to Justin Broad, adding 7 runs to his overnight score, bringing Brydon Carse out to the middle.
Harry Crawshaw also fell early on the third morning, scoring just 3 further runs, as he was caught behind trying to cut one as Dan Moriarty grabbed his first wicket.
Durham added just 11 runs for the fifth wicket before Jamie Crawley feathered one behind to Broad for 2, as Durham had lost three early wickets on the third morning. Luke Doneathy was then pinned lbw for for 15, as Durham lost another early wicket.
Brydon Carse was unbeaten on 33 from 71 balls when Durham declared on 319/6 trailing Surrey by 8 runs – with 10 minutes to go till lunch.
In reply, Carse got an early breakthrough dismissing Angus Lovell for 8, while Nico Reifer also fell soon after for 13 falling to Elliot Hooper.
Cameron Steel and Josh Broad added 30 for the third wicket but former Durham man Cameron Steel was given out caught behind as Alfie Taylor-Clark joined the action, Steel departing for 41.
Thomas Lawes added another 32 with Broad, before he was given out leg-before for 17, with Surrey 115/5.
Justin Broad and Josh Blake put on 91 for the fifth wicket as both batters looked well set against the Durham attack, however Blake tried to pull the ball which went straight to Jamie Crawley for 36, as Stanley McAlindon broken a key partnership.
Broad remained unbeaten at the close with 87 as Surrey lead Durham by 238 runs with 5 wickets remaining.
Day 2 – Surrey 327ao, Durham 248/2 trailing by 79
Harry Crawshaw led the way for Durham Seconds with an unbeaten 127 against Surrey at Guilford, as Durham trail by 79 going into day 3.
Resuming Day 2 on 314/9 Surrey added 13 runs to their overnight score as O’Sullivan was caught behind for 4 from 46 balls as Elliott Hooper claimed his first Durham wicket.
Josh Blake finished unbeaten on 87 from 193 balls, as Surrey were bowled out for 327 in 103.3 overs.
Ben McKinney and Harry Crawshaw added 25 for the first wicket but McKinney left one and was bowled for 9.
Graham Clark was the new man in the middle and he added 77 for the 2nd wicket with Crawshaw, however Clark was caught behind to former Durham team mate Cameron Steel in the slips for 44 with 6 fours.
Crawshaw looked in fine form brining up his half century in 103 balls with 10 fours.
The left-hander reverse swept Steel for two fours in the over which brought up his three figures, coming in 157 balls with 15 fours, as Durham went to tea on 194/2.
Crawshaw and Bushnell soon brought up the 100 partnership after the tea break, as Jonathan Bushnell played a shot on the back foot which also brought up the 200 on the board.
Bushnell was shortly raising his bat for 50 from 109 balls with 6 fours, with the partnership between him and Crawshaw moving to 146 at the close.
Crawshaw remained unbeaten on 127 from 212 balls with 20 fours while Bushnell closed on 63 not out.
Bad light stopped play after 69 overs of the Durham innings with the umpires calling it for the day just after 5:30pm, with Durham 248/2 and trailing by 79 runs.
Day 1 – Surrey 314/9.
Brydon Carse made his return to bowling with a wicket first ball as Durham Seconds took on Sussex at Guilford Cricket Club in the 2XI Championship.
Having won the toss, Durham elected to bowl and instantly struck as Matt Salisbury dismissed both Surrey openers cheaply. Jamie Smith was bowled by Matt Salisbury in the third over of the day, followed by former Durham man Cameron Steel being bowled for 4 in the 6th over.
Nico Reifer then fell to Brydon Carse in what was Carse’ first ball on his return to action with Durham – Reifer was beaten for pace and feathered one behind to Tom Mackintosh.
Justin Broad and Tom Lawes then steadied the ship for Surrey with an 87 run stand for the 4th wicket, but Lawes fell for 40 bowled by Mitchell Killeen.
Nick Kimber was then caught behind for 1 to give Alfie Taylor-Clarke his first of the day, as Durham were on top with the ball.
Josh Blake finished unbeaten on 80 over night, as Surrey closed on 314/9 from 96 overs.
Matt Salisbury claimed 2/35 from 10 overs, with McAlindon and Alfie Taylor-Clarke picking up 2 each. Brydon Carse bowled 12 overs on Day 1 with 3 maidens and 1 wicket going for 22 runs.
