During the morning, the young people took part in activities delivered by Durham County Cricket Foundation team and Show Racism the Red Card’s education team. Foundation coach James Wiggan and England Ladies player Dani Hazell ran a fun cricket training session while Sally Landon and Dave Ross gave the youngsters a chance to record their own cricket news report in the Media Centre’s Sky Sports Studio. Show Racism the Red Card’s anti-racism workshops were delivered by education team; Lizz Bennett, Laura Pidcock and Laura Hagan.
After lunch, everyone got back together for Show Racism the Red Card’s educational film which was followed by a question and answer session in which pupils from both schools played an active part. Fielding the questions were Show Racism the Red Card coaches, Trevor Benjamin, Olivier Bernard, John Anderson, Curtis Fleming and Gary Bennett. Representing Durham County Cricket Club were fast bowlers Graham Onions and Ruel Brathwaite.
Despite some tough questions, the panel weren’t stumped. Those who asked the most interesting questions won a family ticket for one of Durham Dynamos Friends Provident t20 matches this summer and there were also 10 tickets for Newcastle United’s match against Everton up for grabs.
Durham County Cricket Foundation in association with the Esh Charitable Trust would like to thank Show Racism the Red Card for a fantastic day at Emirates Durham ICG.
