Mitch Killeen top scores with 38 as Durham Second XI wrap up six wicket victory over Durham UCCE at the Racecourse Ground

Day 3: Durham Second XI 369 &142/4 beat Durham UCCE 123 & 387

Mitchell Killeen top scored with 38 as Durham Second XI wrapped up victory by six wickets against Durham UCCE at the Racecourse Ground, after Callum Parkinson’s five-wicket haul.

Leading by 14 runs at the beginning of day three, Durham Seconds made a quick breakthrough as the visitors only added five runs to their overnight 232 before they lost their eighth wicket of the innings.

The hosts then stood firm as Wilf La Fontaine-Jackson played an outstanding knock of 226 from 288 balls with 33 boundaries. He had doubled his morning score of 113 by the time he was stumped off Mitchell Killeen’s bowling after a ninth wicket stand of 148.

Durham UCCE added a further two runs to their total, setting the visitors a target of 142. Callum Parkinson collected the best bowling figures, ending with 5/95.

Faizan Ghumman and Luke Symington opened for Durham Second XI, scoring 20 each as Durham put on 65 for the first two wickets. Killeen came in at three, striking two fours and a six to take the visitors within 28 of the target.

James Minto hit an unbeaten 24 alongside captain Parkinson, who finished 11 not out. Brij Sheopuri took two wickets for the hosts with Charlie Whipple also claiming one.

 

 

Day 2- Durham UCCE 123ao & 232/7 vs Durham 2XI 369ao

Callum Parkinson took three wickets as Durham Second XI maintained a dominant position, leading by 14 runs after day two against Durham UCCE at the Racecourse Ground.

Resuming on 254 for four Scott Borthwick and Robbie Bowman put on a further 43 runs together, before Bowman fell for 31.

Borthwick went on to score 216 from 196 balls- comprised of 21 fours and eight sixes, before he was dismissed by Brij Sheopuri.

The hosts then wrapped up the innings quickly with Sheopuri taking two wickets to claim figures of 4/31 as Durham Seconds were all out for 369 with a lead of 246.

James Minto and Mitchell Killeen took an early wicket apiece to reduce Durham UCCE to 30 for two. Wilf La Fontaine-Jackson and Charlie Whipple shared 71 before Parkinson struck twice in the 31st.

Sebastian Hughes-Piñan claimed two scalps to disrupt partnerships of 58 for the fifth wicket and 42 for the sixth.

La Fontaine-Jackson then went to three figures from 133 deliveries for the hosts, striking 12 fours and one maximum.

Callum Parkinson trapped Angus Catto lbw to claim the Second’s seventh wicket with the hosts on 224, as the left arm spinner closed the day with figures of 3/50.

 

Day 1: Durham UCCE 123ao v Durham 2XI 254/4

Scott Borthwick hit an unbeaten 157 as Durham Second XI kicked off their season with a dominant opening day against Durham UCCE at the Racecourse Ground.

On the first day of the three day friendly, Durham UCCE won the toss and inserted the visitors. The visitors picked up three early wickets as Daniel Hogg struck twice early on.

Durham continued to pick up regular wickets as Mitchell Killeen and Stanley McAlindon claimed one scalp apiece before Parkinson took three quickfire wickets, leaving the hosts reeling at 116 for seven at lunch.

Hogg doubled his wicket tally after lunch, finishing with four alongside Parkinson- who claimed the hosts’ 10th wicket as they finished 123 all out in the 31st over.

The hosts got off to a quick start, George Kemkers pinning Faizan Ghumman first ball of the innings. Parkinson and Scott Borthwick settled the innings with a 50-run partnership before the former also fell to Kemkers.

Luke Symington joined Borthwick at the crease and the pair shared a 144-run stand as the latter went to his century in 108 balls. Symington went to 50 inside 85 balls before falling shortly after.

The hosts claimed wickets in back-to-back overs with Durham 197 for four. Robbie Bowman joined Borthwick in the middle, sharing 57 for the fifth wicket before the day came to a close.

Borthwick remained unbeaten on 157 from 147 balls in an innings featuring 13 fours and four sixes as Durham closed the opening day on 254 for four with a lead of 131.
