Pringle scores century, Seconds draw

Day Three

Result: Derbyshire 2nd XI (404 & 291/7d; Hudson-Prentice 173*) drew with Durham 2nd XI (301/6d & 159/1; Pringle 106*, Clark 46*)

Ryan Pringle scored a scintillating century but the Seconds’ three-day Championship match against Derbyshire ended in a draw.

Set an unlikely 395 to win with less than 40 overs remaining in the day, Pringle smashed a hundred off just 75 balls with support from Graham Clark, who finished 46 not out.

The all-rounder scored nine boundaries & five maximums in the knock as the game petered out with little prospect of a result.

Pringle took a particular liking to Connor Marshall’s leg spin, taking him for three big sixes over the leg side.

Clark will also have appreciated time at the crease, scoring five boundaries in his 58-ball knock.

Durham were unable to force a result after Anuj Dal & Fynn Hudson-Prentice kept the bowlers at bay for much of the day.

The Day Three wickets were shared between Brydon Carse, George Harding & Ross Greenwell, with two run-outs.

The sides meet again tomorrow (Thursday 16 May) in a 50-over match at Denstone College.

Day Two

Close, Day Two: Derbyshire 2nd XI (404 & 41/2; Gibson 1/6) lead Durham 2nd XI (301/6d; Bell 69, Smith 64, Poynter 60) by 144 runs

An early declaration & late wickets have set up an intriguing finish between Durham 2nd XI & Derbyshire 2nd XI after Day Two at Derby.

In an attempt to force a result, Durham declared their first innings on 301/6, trailing the hosts by 103 runs.

With 18 overs left in the day, Alan Walker’s side managed the wickets of both openers as Derbyshire finished the day 144 runs in front.

Young batsman Sol Bell top-scored with 69, while Will Smith added 64 & Stuart Poynter 60.

Three down for just 52, Smith & Bell dug in for the fourth wicket stand before wicketkeeper Poynter offered further support once Smith holed out & Bell feathered behind.

Further useful contributions from Brydon Carse (43*) & Josh Coughlin (34*) took Durham past the 300 mark.

Nathan Rimmington & Oliver Gibson took the wickets to fall before the close of play.

Day One

Close, Day One: Durham 2nd XI (14/1) trail Derbyshire 2nd XI (404; Dal 126; Rimmington 2/45, Harding 2/64) by 390 runs

The wickets were shared among seven bowlers on Day One of the Second XI’s Championship match against Derbyshire.

Nathan Rimmington was the pick of the bowlers, with George Harding & Brydon Carse also taking two apiece as the hosts made 404.

Durham closed on 8/1 with Ryan Pringle & Will Smith at the crease.

Anuj Dal’s century proved the decisive innings as he withstood a glut of middle order wickets to hold the tail together to turn 160/6 into 404 all out.

Rimmington was the most economical of the bowlers to go with his two wickets, which included Dal LBW.

Carse also enjoyed a return to bowling with the red ball, trapping Fynn Hudson-Prentice LBW & clean bowling Josh Lacey.
