Seconds lose out in final Trophy fixture

Result: Durham 2nd XI (293/8; Pringle 70*) lost to Yorkshire 2nd XI (294/2; Lees 119*, Gibson 87) by eight wickets

Durham’s second string lost out to Yorkshire by eight wickets in their final Trophy game of the season.

Batting first, Durham scored 293 off the back of 70 from Ryan Pringle and a number of 40s.

Graham Clark, Nick Hobson, Jack Burnham and Brydon Carse all fell just shy of a half-centuries as Neil Killeen’s side posted a defendable score at York.

However, Yorkshire’s llimited-overs captain Alex Lees struck an unbeaten century as the hosts won with 15 balls to spare.

The early wicket of Ben Ainsley, bowled by Jamie Harrison, did not stifle the Yorkshiremen as a second wicket stand between Lees and Ryan Gibson stretched to 143.

Gibson became Adam Hickey’s first wicket and with 127 still required from 18 overs, Durham were still in with a shout.

But captain Will Rhodes hit a 50-ball 56 while Lees reached three figures as they eventually eased home.

Durham’s earlier total was built on solid foundations as the top four all passed 40.

Three middle-order wickets for 14 checked their momentum but Pringle accelerated towards the end alongside Carse, whose 43 came in 41 balls.

Pringle’s 70* included three fours and four sixes.
