Durham’s Second XI secured two important T20 victories against Northamptonshire at Campbell Road, which kept them in the hunt for qualification out of the North Group.
The two wins means the D’s now have three in four games and are once again competing at the top of the table alongside Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
Today’s victories in Northampton were slightly contrasted, the first an impressive, dramatic chase that saw Durham successfully reach their target of 185 with just one ball remaining and the second a more routine seven-wicket win with one over to spare.
The first game owed much to the fast scoring from top order batsman, Liam Trevaskis (36), Michael Jones (43), Ned Eckersley (48) and Gareth Harte (32) who kept the run rate on target and ensured a professional five wicket win.
The second win featured some excellent bowling from Matthew Potts (3-34) and James Weighell (3-24) who helped restrict the hosts to 144 from 19.5 overs.
This allowed openers Graham Clark (35) and Cameron Steel (44) to get the D’s off to a strong start and Alex Lees’ impressive 43* made the fixture relatively comfortable.
