Durham seconds had to settle for a draw against a resilient Leicestershire side at South Northumberland, despite having them eight wickets down.

Leicestershire declared overnight on 68/0 with Ateeq Javid (40) and Sam Evans (20) both finishing unbeaten trailing by 265 runs.

Both Angus Robson and Cameron Steel were in the middle on 17 not out when rain brought the players off the field, leading to Durham declaring on 40/0 from 7.3 overs.

Durham set the visitors a target of 305 to win, and Luke Doneathy struck in the opening stages to dismiss Sam Evans for 0, caught behind by Stuart Poynter.

Doneathy then grabbed his second to bowl Aadil Ali leaving Leicestershire 13/2. Despite Leicestershire losing their top three batsman cheaply, Callum Parkinson (86) and Harry Swindells (49) steadied the ship, at 141/4.

Both eventually fell, leaving the East Midlands side 160/6 and although Doneathy (4/52) and Ryan Pringle (3/63) struck, Brinder Singh Phagura dug in with the bat closing on 27 from 70 balls, as Leicestershire closed on 242/8 from 69 overs.

Day Two

Close, Day Two: Durham (333/8 [Declared] Pringle 122, Doneathy 79) lead Leicestershire (Khan 3/35, Klein 3/66; Javid 40*) by 265 runs

Pringle led the way with 122 coming in 140 balls which included 16 fours and two sixes before he was caught from the bowling off Dieter Klein leading to Durham declaring with 18 overs left in the day.

Cameron Steel (34) and Angus Robson (26) helped Durham get off a positive start at Gosforth, losing their first wicket at 62 when the Robson departed leg before wicket.
