The 29 year old right hander was Durham’s second highest run scorer in the LV= County Championship and fell just 22 runs short of passing the 1000 first class runs mark.
Exceptional contributions in the field also saw Smith named Fielder of the Year at the end of season awards dinner.
On his contract extension Will Smith said, “I’ve definitely enjoyed this season a lot, I’ve felt comfortable out there in the middle batting and what’s just as important to me as scoring the runs is knowing that I’ve played some important
innings that have helped us win games.
“I’m delighted to be staying with Durham for another two years and I’m looking forward significantly contributing to what I hope will be trophy winning campaigns.”
Head Coach Geoff Cook added, “Will has shown real passion, commitment and determination to get back to the performance levels we know he is capable of and that has given him real confidence that I think will stand him in good stead for the seasons to come. He’s made some extremely valuable contributions with the bat, and in the field, this year and I’m confident that there is even more to come.”
