Durham head coach Jon Lewis says the club have been in constant contact with Stephen Cook before today’s announcement as an overseas player for 2017.
Cook joins for the first half of the season before joining up with the national side for the Test series against England, subject to selection.
The 34-year-old scored a hundred in his first Test innings last year, the last person to do so before a certain Keaton Jennings.
And speaking to Durham TV, Lewis believes Cook is a solid addition to the squad for the upcoming season.
