The 14-man NatWest Series squad sees the inclusion of Durham’s Ben Stokes, who made his international debut against Ireland in Dublin on Thursday, while Kevin Pietersen will be rested for the five-match series against India.
The 13-man NatWest International Twenty20 squad includes two uncapped players in Somerset’s Jos Buttler and Nottinghamshire’s Alex Hales.
On his inclusion Ben Stokes said, “I’m so pleased to have been included in the squad, I thoroughly enjoyed making my debut earlier this week and I can’t wait to get back out on the field in an England shirt.
“After my injury earlier in the year I never thought I’d be in contention for this series but it just goes to show that that hard work I put in during my rehabilitation, and in the nets, has paid off. I’ve had great support throughout my short career at Durham and I’m really proud to represent my county within the England squad.”
National selector, Geoff Miller, said: “Across both squads we believe we’ve selected an exciting blend of experienced international performers along with some exciting young players with a great deal of talent. We will need to play a high quality brand of limited overs cricket against the World Champions India.
“We’re very excited to have included some bright young players in the form of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Alex Hales, all of whom have proved themselves domestically and will now be looking to successfully take the step up to international level.
“The decision to omit Kevin Pietersen from the One-Day squad is in line with our policy of sensibly managing player workloads and will give the opportunity to another batsmen to test himself batting at number four.”
