Durham (365; Jones 99; Lees 66; Poynter 40) draw with Northamptonshire (271 all out; Raine 3-31, Coughlin 3-38; Thurston 69 & 51/1).
Just 21 overs were played on Day Three of Durham’s Second XI Championship fixture against Northamptonshire at Campbell Park.
Durham had worked themselves into a strong position going into the third day of the fixture and had a lead of 76 runs. Matthew Potts grabbed an early wicket, dismissing Emilio Gay for 13 but following a strong downpour the players never returned to the field after lunch.
Day Two
Durham (347/8; Jones 99; Lees 66; Poynter 40) lead Northamptonshire (271 all out; Thurston 69) by 76 runs.
Michael Jones’ (99) excellent display with the bat has put Durham Second XI in the driving seat against Northamptonshire at Campbell Park.
Jones was agonisingly dismissed by Tom Sole just one run shy of his hundred, however his 99 off 162 balls alongside Alex Lees’ impressive 66 built a solid foundation at the top of the order following Cameron Steel’s (6) early dismissal.
Graham Clark (34), Liam Trevaskis (38), Stuart Poynter (40) and Ben Raine (29*) all added some important contributions to the total and Durham finished Day Two with a lead of 76 and two wickets still remaining.
The D’s will hope to take advantage of their lead going into Day Three with an early declaration expected. Follow the live scorecard here.
Day One
Durham (10/0) trail Northamptonshire (271 all out; Thurston 69) by 261 runs.
Durham’s Second XI face Northamptonshire this week in a three-day fixture at Campbell Park.
The D’s restricted the hosts to 271 on Day One, helped by an excellent spell of bowling from Ben Raine (3-31) and Josh Coughlin (3-48).
First Team Coach, James Franklin named a strong side for this week’s fixture following some poor results in the Specsavers County Championship and Alex Lees, Gareth Harte, Liam Trevaskis, Ben Raine and Matthew Potts will all take part.
Dangerman Charlie Thurston (69) was eventually removed by Harte after an impressive innings of 69 from 66 balls, plus Saif Zaib (40) and Harry Bates (42) decent knocks were ended by Coughlin and Raine, leaving Northamptonshire 271 all out.
Durham openers Lees and Cameron Steel batted out the remaining overs to finish 10/0 at stumps.
