The Riverside Durham displayed its stunning, beautiful best as the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 reached the last of 11 destinations.
A near sold-out Chester-le-Street crowd enjoyed a day of unrelenting sunshine as the first of three games to be hosted at the ground played out.
While the on-field action saw South Africa dominate a Sri Lankan side who now face a stiff task to qualify, cricket supporters from around the globe enjoyed the best that North East cricket has to offer.
Got to say it: The home of @DurhamCricket is the nicest place in the country to watch a game on a sunny day. #CWC19 #SLvSA pic.twitter.com/KOafDDIVed

Attention now turns to Monday’s match between Sri Lanka & West Indies.
The former’s qualification hopes hang by a thread & they now need other results to go their way as well as winning their final two matches.
West Indies are out of the running but are keen to finish the tournament on a high.
