The timings have now been confirmed for all of the ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy Tour events taking place in the North East – including a visit from Sir Ian Botham.
The Club’s Chairman will be in attendance at Raby Castle on Saturday, 6 April as a Botham XI go up against a Durham XI on the Raby Castle cricket pitch, starting at 1:30m.
The Castle’s association with cricket goes back a long way, as it was the site of the first officially recorded game of cricket ever played in Durham in 1751 – one of earliest recorded cricket games in the world. The match was contested by The Duke of Northumberland XI and Lord Barnard XI, and was recreated in 1992, featuring the full Durham XI, including Sir Ian.
Family activities from the Club’s matchday family zone will be available to take part in with local food & drink available to purchase.
The Trophy moves on to the Racecourse landing stage on Sunday to greet rowers from Durham University & Durham Amateur Rowing Club before moving on to a photo opportunity in Durham marketplace between 11:00am – 1:00pm.
Monday sees the Trophy arrive at Beamish Museum from 9:30am, where visitors to the popular tourist attraction will have the chance to see the Trophy and participate in cricket activities as well as finding out about the history of cricket.
From there it will go to Emirates Riverside from 1:30pm for an afternoon of family fun running alongside club-based skills competition.
