Twelve travel to Middlesex at Merchants’

Durham head coach Jon Lewis has 12 players at his disposal for the first of two pre-season fixtures next week.

The squad travel to Merchant Taylors’ School in Northwood to take on County Champions, Middlesex, in a two-day friendly.

England pace man Mark Wood is included in the travelling party as he continues to make progress after a third ankle operation.

Wood’s inclusion hands Lewis a fifth seam bowling option with Graham Onions, Chris Rushworth, Brydon Carse & Paul Coughlin also at his disposal.

Cameron Steel is also included and could open the batting against his former county.

Steel, who signed a one-year developmental contract during the winter, scored 95 against Middlesex’s Seconds during the Second XI final at the back end of 2016.

Durham round off their preparations for the 2017 campaign with a home match against Durham MCCU starting on Friday, 7 April before the season kicks off a week later at home to Nottinghamshire.
