Umpire and Scorer Courses Released

Durham Cricket ACO (Association of Cricket Officials) has confirmed their full Officials Education Programme for 2021/2022.

After a pause to the face-to-face courses due to the pandemic, the ACO has confirmed the resumption of regular courses and, during the winter, will be running courses for umpires and scorers of any level – from beginners to those with some experience.

For beginners, introductory courses in umpiring and scoring are available, including an ‘Introduction to Umpiring’ course for women and girls. These one-day courses will provide attendees with the basic skills and knowledge to get involved in officiating.

Courses for umpires looking to umpire on a regular basis are available with Stage One and Stage Two courses taking place in Chester le Street and Darlington.

Introductory courses

The introductory courses are short stand-alone courses which will give cricket enthusiasts curious about becoming an umpire or a scorer a taste of what the role entails, outlining what lies ahead for those who would like to pursue their interest.

The Introduction to Umpiring course is free of charge and takes place on Monday, 15th November from 7.00pm until 9.30pm at the Riverside, Chester le Street.

Another introductory course for women and girls is available too. This course is also free of charge and will take place on Monday, 22nd November from 7.00pm until 9.30pm at the Riverside.

The Introduction to Scoring is suited to complete beginners or as a refresher for anyone returning to scoring. It covers the very basics of scoring and is ideal for parents who want to get more involved or anyone who wants to get started in scoring.

There is a small cost to the course, payable on the day.

Two courses are taking place at the Riverside – on 16th January and 13th February.
