Durham Cricket Head Groundsman Vic Demain is delighted with the progress made to the pitches since the ground work took place last winter.
In previous years water has continued to stand on the pitch, due to the levels on the square not being equal and therefore ahead of the 2021 season work was carried out to improve the pitches.
Vic Demain said: “Practice wickets have been really good, the feedback has been good and probably a bit better than expected at this early stage. We’re all ready to go against Derbyshire.”
Having played all their pre-season friendlies away from home, the Derbyshire fixture will be the first time the ground has been used since the work which took place last autumn.
Speaking on the Derbyshire, Vic said: “It looks a really good pitch, I’m happy with the pitch.
“Nobody knows how it’s going to play as it’s more or less a brand new square, it’s going to be very interesting.
“Normally you’d expect the bounce to be down a bit but that’s not what we’ve seen with the practise wickets.
“I’m really happy with the pitch, it looks like one were you should be scoring about 700.”
“It’ll be interesting to see what the captains make when they toss up for innings.”
Vic Demain spoke with Durham Cricket TV ahead of the Derbyshire fixture.
