WANTED: Assistant Academy Coach

The main area of work for this role will be bridging the gap between junior cricket and the Academy.  Working with Durham Cricket Board Age Group teams and their best players, to continue to raise the standard of cricket in Durham, is a priority.  Identifying talent from across the North is an important secondary responsibility.

The successful applicants will be able to demonstrate an in depth knowledge of junior cricket in Durham.  Experience in setting individual development plans and executing those plans will be an advantage.

You will be a self-starter with energy and enthusiasm together with good administration and organisational skills.  Equally you will be an excellent communicator with a passion for sport coupled with a high regard for enhancing the cricketing skills of Durham’s developing young players.

Good IT skills with the ability to manage a small team and build solid relationships with volunteer workers and players’ next of kin will be key to this role.  Whilst working as part of the Durham County Cricket Club coaching team much of the time will be spent working on your own, strong internal drive is therefore required.

Responsible to Academy Manger

Durham Academy has been successful in developing local players capable of playing for Durham CCC and England.  The Academy is made up of players from many backgrounds and situations.  A comprehensive practice, training and match programme is in place to ensure the development of local talent.  The programme is resourced by ECB and DCCC.  Durham Academy is an integral part of the Club and benefits from the Club’s coaching support.  The Assistant Academy Coach will become a member of this coaching team.

1) Assist in coaching of Academy Players
Manage practice, work one to one, in groups and in teams.  Work to develop players in line with their development plans.

2) Responsible for Junior Academy
Durham Junior Academy play and train periodically through the year.  The team is made up of players from across the North that may go on to join the Academy.

3) Act as the Emerging Players Programme Head Coach

4) Assist in coaching of talented Durham Cricket Board Age Group players ie U14, U15, U16, U17 and oversee cricketing standards across the squads

5) Assist with Durham CCC’s NVQ Programme, which provides an educational qualification equivalent to 2 ‘A’ levels at the end of a two year period
