Weighell signs two-year extension

Durham County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that James Weighell has signed a two-year contract extension and will stay at Emirates Riverside until the close of the 2020 season.

The 23-year-old paceman enjoyed a productive 2017 campaign and established himself as a first team player across all formats. Weighell ended the year with 38 wickets and finished as the Club’s third-highest wicket-taker in the NatWest T20 Blast.

Weighell offered a strong batting contribution to the lower order in the Specsavers County Championship and notched two first-class half-centuries and a high score of 58.

“I’m delighted to have signed an extension with Durham and excited to help the Club challenge for silverware,” Weighell said.

“I feel happy with the progress I have made and feel I can now continue to develop my skills across all formats.

“It’s great to be able to play cricket with such a strong group of lads and I’m looking forward to the new season.”

Head Coach Jon Lewis, added: “We’ve been impressed with James’ development with both bat and ball and feel he can offer a lot to our bowling attack in red and white ball cricket.”
