Whickham win the Adult Indoor 6-a-side Competition

Whickham won the Durham Cricket Board Adult Indoor 6-a-side Competition after beating Chester-le-Street by three wickets in the final on Thursday night.

As Durham’s winners, Whickham progress to the regional final to play the winners of the Northumberland competition, that are yet to be finalised.

In the semi-finals, Chester-le-Street overcame South Shields.

Chester-le-Street won the toss and elected to bat. Skipper Jon Coxon retired in the seventh over with 26 not out, Luke Allen retired undefeated in the ninth over with 26 and Andrew Summers scored 25 to post a total of 99-1 in 10 overs.

In reply, South Shields ended on 95 all out after 9.4 overs.

In the other semi-final, Whickham faced Greenside. Whickham, batting first, posted a total of 141-2, with Liam Anderson retiring on 38 not out, Dan Kirtley contributing another 35 not out and skipper Matty Rodger unbeaten on 26.

In response, Greenside never really got going in the chase, posting a total of 59.

In the final, Chester-le-Street won the toss and elected to bat first posting 118-4 in 10 overs. The main scorers were skipper Jon Coxon with 27 not out, George Harrison unbeaten on 25 and Oli Barrett with 22.

Whickham chased the total for the loss of three wickets, with Liam Anderson again top-scoring with 44 not out, Scott Richardson posting 29 not out and Liam Hanna 25 not out.
