Durham Cricket Association of Cricket Officials (ACO) will run two women and girls only introductory umpire courses with the aim to attract more females into umpiring who can support a growing demand for women’s and girls’ cricket.
The courses will take place on Sunday 24th November and Sunday 16th February at Emirates Riverside as Durham is one of the first counties in the country to provide umpire introduction sessions for women and girls only.
The new courses are part Durham’s ambition to deliver ECB’s action plan to transform women’s and girls’ cricket across the county, which was launched in October.
Durham ACO Chairman Paul Jordison said: “Creating more opportunities for women and girls to be involved at all levels of the game, including umpiring and scoring, is a crucial part of driving the game forward.
“An increase of girls’ participation across Durham is evident and we want to capitalise on that by increasing female representation in officiating roles too.
“We look forward to running these courses for the first time.”
The courses are three hours long and will give participants an understanding of the Laws of the Game and will provide them with the basics to be able to umpire their own matches, with the potential to become qualified umpires in the future
