Mark Wood finished the 50-over leg of England Lions’ matches against Pakistan ‘A’ with an impressive performance, despite the Lions’ 3-2 series defeat in the UAE.
The Durham pace man sent down a miserly ten overs for figures of 2/26 in the final match at the ICC Academy in Dubai, including two maidens.
Attempting to defend a lowly target of 169, Wood got things off to a perfect start when trapping Shan Masood LBW without scoring after three balls.
He returned to have Israrullah caught by Sam Hain in his second spell but with the score at 103/3, Pakistan cantered home despite the Lions’ best efforts.
Wood finished with five wickets from three matches in the series ahead of the two-game T20 series.
Cameron Bancroft was again in the runs in the Western Australia First Grade competition for club side Willetton against Wanneroo.
The 26-year-old made a fourth half century in five innings, a patient 63 off 177 balls at Burrendah Park.
But he lacked meaningful support & when he was fifth to be dismissed with the score on 130, Willetton collapsed to 158 all out. Wanneroo are 46/1 heading into the second day.
Bancroft has now amassed 413 First Grade runs so far this season, just five behind the leading run-scorer.
