Durham posted a first innings total of 243 after a rain delayed start to day two at New Road and in response Worcester were 100-2 at the close
When play finally began in at 2pm Durham lost Michael Richardson, who was caught by Daryl Mitchell off Gareth Andrew, having added two to their overnight score.
Dale Benkenstein battled to contribute 30 in overcast conditions before he became Andrew’s second victim when he was bowled with the Durham total at 150. He claimed his third scalp when Scott Borthwick (10) fell to the same fate six overs later.
A valuable 32 from Phil Mustard steered Durham to 193 before he was caught by Phil Hughes off the bowling of Richard Jones.
A 43 run partnership between Callum Thorp and Graham Onions secured Durham’s only batting point and it was Alan Richardson who cleared up the tail with Thorp (30) and Rushworth (0) caught out leaving Graham Onions unbeaten on 25.
Worcester returned to the field as the sun came out in full force and despite bowling tightly the Durham attack couldn’t make the breakthrough.
The openers batted patiently in improving conditions to reach 63 before Ben Stokes made the much needed breakthrough when Mitchell was caught behind on 24. He struck again an over later, trapping Vikram Solanki lbw for 13.
Rain brought a further halt to play around 6.30pm but after a brief wait play was resumed for the final three overs of the day.
