Yorkshire Second XI 276/8 Durham Second XI 144AO
Youthful Durham Second XI suffered a 45-over friendly defeat to an experienced Yorkshire side at Seat Unique Riverside in the build-up to the Metro Bank One Day Cup.
Yorkshire captain Jonathan Tattersall won the toss and chose to bat first at Seat Unique Riverside, a decision which paid off initially as the visitors saw an opening stand of 73 last almost a dozen overs.
That was before Mitchell Killeen found the first break through, striking the top of Harry Duke’s off stump on the final ball of the twelfth. Noah Kelly then partnered Finlay Bean as they shared 24 for the second wicket.
Stanley McAlindon (3-27) was introduced into the attack and struck in his opening over, dislodging the off stump of Kelly with Yorkshire three runs shy of 100.
Bean began to up the ante with Tattersall alongside him and the pair struck a partnership to the tune of 47 runs by the time McAlindon trapped the Yorkshire skipper in front the 23rd over.
McAlindon then took a third in his fifth over as Yash Vagadia chipped to Jonathan Bushnell on zero. James Minto returned to remove Jawad Akhtar before taking the key wicket of Bean on 95 to reduce Yorkshire to 167 for six.
Jack Redshaw (34) and Joe Pocklington (65*) bounced back for the White Rose with a partnership of 57. Oliver Gibson hit back with wickets in consecutive overs but could not prevent Pocklington reaching his half-century in an expensive penultimate over.
Durham’s chase of 277 did not begin brightly as Chinmay Mullapudi took two early wickets for Yorkshire. Scott Borthwick made 29 from 31, when he departed to Pocklington Durham were 58 for three.
Haydon Mustard became Pocklington’s second victim before Killeen fell cheaply to leave Durham 87 for five. Callum Gaffney and Luke Symington then put on 25 together, Gaffney had made 36- Durham’s top score before he was out to Akhtar.
Joshua Hen-Boisen had Daniel Hogg bowled before Akhtar had McAlindon stumped first ball to see Durham 124 for eight. Minto and Gibson were the final two to fall for Durham, with Symington stranded unbeaten on 22.
Akhtar and Pocklington took three wickets apiece as Mullapudi and Hen-Boisen took a pair each for Yorkshire to bring victory over a youthful Durham side.
