Street Cricket in Sunderland
Street Cricket in Sunderland
The Street Cricket project in Sunderland provides easy to access, free opportunities for the city’s ethnic minority groups and wider community to get involved in the game.
Aiming to break down conventional barriers to the sport by bringing cricket directly to the community, the project has seen fantastic success in the five years it has been running.
The initiative is delivered in partnership with Young Asian Voices, an all-inclusive and multicultural youth and community charity based at the heard of Sunderland, ensuring opportunities are driven by an organisation deeply connected to the city’s community.
Durham Cricket and YAV work together to provide an all-round pathway for those involved in the project – from promoting the game in schools to spotting talent through a performance process, feeding into Durham Cricket’s wider pathway structure.
The project reaches hundreds of children every week, promote social cohesion and ensuring accessibility to the sport for everyone, regardless of ability or background.
