North Group reaches halfway stage at Edgbaston

Durham are aiming to get back to winning ways immediately at Edgbaston as they face off against Warwickshire tomorrow (Friday, 26 April).

After starting their Royal London One-Day Cup campaign with consecutive home wins, a first defeat came at the hands of Worcestershire Rapids at Blackfinch New Road.

A four hour rain delay left the hosts with a chase of 152 from 24 overs after Alex Lees’ unbeaten half-century. Despite a four-wicket salvo for just 10 runs through the middle overs, the Rapids were able to resist Durham’s advances.

“In the end we gave ourselves a sniff at 80-5 but as a chasing team, you would have been very disappointed not to get 150,” half-centurion Lees said.

“The elements put us on the back foot today but that is something you can’t control.

“We are disappointed but we’ve won the first two games and we move onto Warwickshire now and hopefully we can bounce back.”

And so James Franklin’s men move on to Birmingham with the aim of making it three from four at the halfway stage of this season’s North Group.

Durham are currently third in the group, one of three teams to have two wins & a defeat from the first three games. Nottinghamshire Outlaws are top, having won all three games to date.

Franklin named the same 13-man squad for the West Midlands road trip as he did for the opening two games, though Gareth Harte replaced Michael Richardson at number five as the 32-year-old missed out due to family reasons.
